Privacy policy

magpie has no servers of its own. Your saved places, your notes and the posts you share to it live on your phone. We can't read them, because they never reach us.
What magpie collects
Nothing is sent to us, and there is no magpie account or magpie server. The posts you share, the places magpie works out from them, your notes, ratings and lists are all stored on your device.
If you turn on iCloud, your saves sync through your iCloud account, between your own devices. That's Apple's service under your Apple Account, not ours — we have no access to it.
How the AI works
All of it runs on your phone. Reading a caption, reading text in a photo, and working out which venue a post is about happen on your phone's own AI hardware. The content you share is never uploaded to us for analysis, and it is never used to train anything.
What does leave your phone
Two things, and neither goes to us.
The post you shared. When you share a link, magpie fetches that public page — from Instagram or TikTok — to read its caption, exactly as opening the link in a browser would.
The place lookup. To put a pin on a map, magpie asks Apple Maps for a venue name near a location, the same way any maps app does. That search goes to Apple under Apple's privacy policy.
Location
If you allow it, magpie uses your location to sort saves by how close they are and to work out walking or driving times. It stays on your device — it is not sent to us or stored anywhere off your phone. Nearby alerts, which are off unless you switch them on, use it the same way. You can refuse location entirely and magpie still works; it just can't sort by distance.
Signing in is optional
magpie opens and works fully without an account. Sign in with Apple is offered for one purpose: putting your name on a list when you share it with someone. If you use it, your name is stored on your phone and nowhere else.
You can remove it at any time — magpie tab → your name → Delete account. That erases the name and the sign-in from your phone immediately, and your saved places all stay. There is nothing to request from us, because there was never a copy on our side.
Paying for magpie
The one-time unlock is an Apple in-app purchase. Apple handles the payment and tells magpie only whether the unlock is active. We never see your payment details, and there is no subscription.
Analytics and tracking
There are none. magpie contains no analytics, no advertising and no third-party trackers, and it does not track you across other apps or websites.
Children
magpie isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect anything from them — or, in truth, from anyone, since nothing reaches us at all.
Deleting your data
Delete a place in the app, or delete the app itself, and it's gone — it was only ever on your phone. If you sync with iCloud, deleting the app and removing its iCloud data in your Apple Account settings clears the copy there too.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and material changes will be noted in the app.
